RAAF Glenbrook

Service: Construct Only

Cost: $7.6m

Location: Glenbrook, NSW

This project centred on the careful refurbishment of the heritage-listed Officers’ Mess, four Live-In Accommodation blocks, and the Pool House at RAAF Glenbrook all delivered within a live operational environment. Worked closely with local Defence personnel to coordinate construction staging, ensuring minimal disruption to base activities while remaining responsive to stakeholder needs.

The Officers’ Mess, formerly the historic Lapstone Hotel, underwent a significant upgrade to transform it into a functional modern hospitality venue. This included the installation of a new commercial kitchen and air conditioning system, while extensive repainting works were guided by detailed sampling to ensure colour choices aligned with the building’s original Art Deco character.

A major component of the works involved heritage carpentry and hazardous materials (HAZMAT) remediation, with over 200 windows and doors carefully removed, treated, and restored.

Stakeholder coordination was critical throughout the project, particularly to maintain use of the existing kitchen in Building 1. To facilitate the demolition and replacement of the commercial kitchen, a temporary kitchen facility was established onsite and operated for 12 weeks, allowing uninterrupted catering services during construction.
